Helen Gibbins is an Australian artist living, working and creating on magnificent Wadawurrung and Gadubanud country, in Victoria’s Surf Coast. With a love for drawing, she creates playful narratives that reveal alternate imaginings of her world - she also explores more abstract expressions of mark making and has started dabbling with form again. Since receiving a BA Honours HD in sculpture at RMIT in Melbourne, she has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions, worked in artist-run spaces, not-for-profit galleries, local government, co-managed the Melbourne International Animation Festival and associated projects for a decade and was President of the voluntary organisation Surf Coast Arts Inc. Currently she co-coordinates the Surf Coast Shire’s Anglesea Art Space, and continues to grow her passion for how local community can be nurtured though art and creativity. During her time at Art Space, she’s had the pleasure of curating a number of exhibitions/projects, including a response to our local water ways, ‘unmapping’ - an exploration of personal spaces, DRAW! - a progressive installation, the Surf Coast Arts Inc Postcards annual exhibition and artist in residency opportunities.
